Partial Corpectomy and Smith-Peterson Osteotomy for Compression Fracture at T12
Bae Jun-Seok

Jang Jee-Soo
Abstract
We report the case of an old compression fracture of the T12 vertebral body. The best surgical approach for repair of thoracolumbar fracture remains controversial. In this case, a combined anterior and posterior approach was adopted. Via lateral thoracotomy, anterior partial resection of the fractured bone compressing the spinal cord was performed, followed by interbody fusion. Posterior Smith-Petersen osteotomy with instrumentation provided good surgical correction of the kyphotic deformity as well as posterior decompression of the ossified ligamentum flavum at the same level. Postoperatively, the patient showed both clinical and radiological improvement. Long-term follow-up is needed to provide conclusive results.
